CONTROLLING ALL STAGES OF PRODUCTION
What makes today the strength of the CPC and its members is the quality of its coffees. By controlling the entire production chain, from plantation to cup, the cooperative is able to provide its customers with high quality coffees still unmatched in Laos. Benefiting from modern infrastructures and trained to wet processing by specialists from France and El Salvador, cooperative’s members are now able to meet the demands of the international market, both in terms of quality and production volumes. Compliance with strict specifications, from harvest to processing, has allowed members of the CPC to win recognition and trust from its customers.
A. The certification Fair Trade (FLO International)
The Bolaven Plateau Coffee Producers Cooperative and its 1855 members are officially Fairtrade certified (FLO International) since 2009. Besides democracy, transparency and equity, this certification ensures that the CPC contributes to social and economic development of its member through, inter alia, the "Fairtrade Premium" which helps to develop and sustain the means of production and implement community projects in the villages where the cooperative operates. Another advantage, the certification allows members to not be dependent on international market fluctuations thanks to the Fairtrade minimum price, which ensures them with a fair and equitable compensation.
B. The certification in organic farming (EU, IFOAM and NOP)
All coffees produced by the members of the CPC are organic certified for European (EU), Asian (IFOAM) and Northern America (NOP) markets. This certification ensures that CPC coffees are produced in compliance with strict specifications suitable for the production and processing of organic coffee. Production methods ensure that the members of the CPC do not use any chemical fertilizers or pesticides and attach great importance to environmental and animal life. An internal control system managed by the members, with the support of the CPC technicians ensures standards compliance and traceability of coffee from plantations to the export batches in containers.
